Muslims all over the world are faced with a dilemma. The economic activities of the countries in which they live involve Ribaa(Interest or Usury). Whenever a loan is required, for example to purchase, build, or repair a house such a loan involves not only the repayment of the sum but interest as well. Yet the Shariah(Islamic Law) expressly condemns both the charging and paying of interest. The aim of this booklet is to educate Muslims on the position of the Shariah towards Ribaa as well as to introduce the concept of the credit union, operating to zero rate of interest, as an alternative to the commercial banking system for savings and loans.
